The Purple Rock

Adults can be so juvenile.

Have you ever watched a classic movie from 20 or even 30 years ago?   I watched the orignal Karate Kid with my own kids and it moved so slooooow.  They were so impatient that I had to bribe them to finish the movie.  Adults are no different.

I guess that our society has just become so addicted to drama, action and being entertained that we've lost appreciation for simple things like face to face conversations.  We have "smart" phones that command our attention at every buzz, vibration or ringtone.   This technology has made our society absolutely rude.  We'll abandon a conversation happening immediately in front of us to attend to the alert of the smart phone.

And if there is no drama unfolding in front of us, there are people in your neighborhood that have no problem fabricating some for their own entertainment - to fill a void in the conversation where stories of their own LIFE should be.

A story of a purple rock circulated our neighborhood many months back.  As the story goes,  a purple rock in the front yard of a home is placed to signify that swingers live there....  Uh.., OK - I guess (?).  And so this fable has been perpetuated across neighborhoods and circles of friends to beware the purple rock.  Now I've told you that story so I can tell you this one....

I once took a trip to Sandals beach resort - a couples resort in Jamaica.  In fact, I've taken many trips to Sandals.  Its a great all inclusive resort and kids are not allowed.  It just so happens that this  particular Sandals location was nestled on the beach adjacent to Hedonism II (if you don't know what that is - Google it).  One afternoon, a small group of us decided it would be a kick to walk the beach and pass through the adjacent resort.  We were the only ones that had a stitch of clothes on as we crossed the Hedonism beach - but we had stories to tell when we got back to the Sandals resort (to say the very least).  We've shared this travel story many times with our friends throughout the years.  I suppose it was inevitable that one of our friends would think us to be swingers as a result.  Come on - really?  Crossing a nude beach (fully clothed I will add) no more makes me a swinger than a kilt makes a Scottish man a woman.

How juvenile adults can be - Grow Up!  Adults can be just a vicious and adolescent as a teenage girl, and twice as gullible.

So to all the adolescent adults and perpetuators of crap propaganda,  make sure to stop at my house and say "Hi" next time you are in the neighborhood.... just look for the yard with a purple rock - but watch out for my dog, she has cooties.

A letter to the President

June 15, 2012

President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, DC  20500

Dear Mr. President,

Today you announced that the Department of Homeland Security will “lift the shadow of deportation” for illegal aliens.  Some news outlets report that the details of the policy change will affect 800,000 people across the US.   As a resident of a border state (Arizona) I can only deduce that we will see more than our union’s fair share of this affected population of illegal aliens.  But, I assure you that the implication has a much greater reach when you consider the Americans that are impacted by the policy change.

Mr. President, I have been unemployed since October 2011.   I compete with dozens if not hundreds of applicants, every time I apply to a suitable open position.   Furthermore, I am not alone.  I have friends that are in the same situation, relying on a single income from our wives to support our families.  Of course, this is all at the expense of our past lifestyle – the American dream that we all covet and are trying diligently to rebuild in a delicate economy.

Your decision will boost the confidence of those that are in this country illegally, adding even more job hungry applicants to the pool of candidates for these jobs.  They’ve already participated in the US education system, and without accountability or consequence for their illegal status, what is to keep illegal aliens from boldly participating in the US jobs market?  In a market that is already saturated with competition, I consider it a personal injury that you would knowingly increase the competition for jobs with people that are in this country illegally

As this immigration reform issue continues to be bantered between Congress, the White House and the border state governments (that are actually having to live with the consequences of Washington legislation), the impacts of the political gamesmanship hits the kitchen tables of Americans that are competing with illegal aliens for employment opportunities.  Some say that Americans are too lazy to do the work that illegal’s do – I say, leave that decision to the citizens that are trying to repair their American dream.

If being a “Patriotic” American means that I have to take a back row seat to the illegal aliens in this country as they benefit from unenforced laws and take the jobs of legitimate Americans, well then, you can keep your “Patriotic” accolade – I would have no use for it.

Ironically, my application to the Border Patrol to help enforce our immigration laws was rejected because I applied at the age of 39 years and 10 months – just one month beyond the acceptable age deadline.  In the private sector – this would be considered age discrimination, would it not?

Sincerely,

Scott McMahon

PS – In light of the additional competition for employment that is now inevitable, I have attached my resume and would appreciate any efforts you can provide to open a door to a suitable position.

Welcome Back 2012

Hmmm, still looking for ramblings and streams of unconscious dribble from Scott's Tea Party, eh?

Well, You're in luck! Writing is my favorite outlet for combating the ridiculousness in life and absurdity of current events - and there is never a shortage of content to be dragged from the shadows and brought into the light.

Since I last left, I have written numerous letters to political talking heads and the White House itself. I've even received a nice letter in reply from the Whitehouse whose core message was - "There is still a lot of work to do" - translation - I need 4 more years please.

So here we go again. Except this time, I think I'll let my heart do more of the posting so you can expect a bit more dribble from current events surrounding my personal life. After all, I think we are all comfortable with the perfection of the Scottocracy perspective. But I'm not running for office.... yet?

Enjoy the return of the Scottocracy and Scott's Tea Party.
